What is Training?

The general concept of the Seprinto training is been is based on the personality of each as well as the purpose of the practice. It is essential to know the student to be able to teach him/her as he/she sees fit.

There are six ways to remember information:

Training
Concept

A simple example of progressions for a printer:
“An offset printer at level 2 wants to reach level 6 on intaglio front!”

It is essential to have a thread that guides the person’s progress as well as the possibilities that can be offered to him/her and especially the path to go to get there.

After much thought, Seprinto also created a “hierarchy” of printing processes. From simple to complex, from cheap to expensive…

Seprinto created for the whole machine park six levels and various learning and evolution paths a map – the “Seprinto Training Map.”

Novice, Printer

OFFSET LEVEL 2

The printer will have to spend three months on the offset to deal with the paper run, especially the feeder.

It is a must to understand and to have a smooth paper run!

Novice, Printer, PRINTER N°2

After an exam, the printer can pass on to level 3 offset. To reach level 4 another minimum of three months of practice is required!

Printer N°2, Printer N°2*

Three months later, the printer will have reached level 4. An exam is highly recommended.

From there the printer can cross to level 3 of Intaglio Back and resume the passage of levels 3 to 4 in intaglio. The duration of these levels will be slightly shorter due to the knowledge acquired in level 4 offset!

Printer N°2**, Printer N°2***

The printer will go straight to level 4 Intaglio Back in addition to three months in production.

Then he/she will pass an exam to continue his/her progression.

Printer N°2***, Printer N°1, Master

At least six months on the press are required for Level 5.

The transition to Level 6 will only be possible if the printer demonstrates the ability to lead a team and train young printers.

Special training based on pedagogy is highly recommended.

Training Target

Before any training, it is essential to know the expected results for both, the company and the printer.

It is also imperative to know if the training is of a general or specific nature.

That is, if the training is intended to increase the general level of machine operators or if it should instead focus on specific topics.

Assessment

To adequately prepare the training and to individualise it as much as possible, an assessment of the current level of skills is necessary at the beginning of the training.

A complete evaluation will be held with a practical and theoretical revision of the machine. Depending on the purpose of the training an attitude evaluation will also be realized!

The principle of competence testing to move from one level to another is similar. This approach helps to identify and measure each’s abilities. Instead of spending time redoing settings or actions well known and well understood, it’s more interesting to use each other’s knowledge to get the message across. Thanks to the evaluation this can be quickly determined!

Training Process

The training process we implement is achieved through a defined curriculum.

Assessment 1

Various practical and theoretical tests to assess the printers current level.

Training Phase 1

Depending on the results of the assessment, specific training will be given.

Assessment 2

A second assessment will test the knowledge of comprehension of the first training.

Training Phase 2

After 6 to 8 month a refreshment training will take place to give the printer time to practice the learned material and get a deeper understanding.

Personalised Training Plan

Depending on the purpose of the training and the evaluation carried out, a personalised program will be developed.

  • Topics marked with a 6 during the evaluation will be overflown,
  • Marks 4 and 5 are addressed,
  • Marks 1, 2 and 3 are intensively reviewed.

If the training is for a group, a daily training plan will be organised to allow the trainer to readjust the training to the general level of the group.

If a printer gets a 6 on a specific point, he/she will be asked to explain this point to his/her colleagues. As mentioned at the beginning, the efficiency of the training is over 75% by explaining and writing!

Results

It is essential to share the results with the evaluated printer. The result will be delivered between 3 people, the trainer, the printer and a superior.

The printer must understand his result, he must understand why he got this mark and how. The joined evaluation also allows the printer and the superior to create, together, an action plan for the next steps.

Training
Refreshment

When the training is on a new part of the press, it is challenging for the printer to be able to analyse everything, to be able to understand everything and to ask some relevant questions. Everything is new and he/she still needs to assimilate to the new job.

However, after some time, the operating principle is well understood, and technical and operational issues will come up. Questions will arise and unfortunately, the printer/operator is alone…

For this reason, a refreshment training is recommended after 6 to 8 months.

The principles of this refreshing training are similar to the first training:

  • Evaluation
  • Review of points not or poorly understood
  • Evaluation 2
